Post told to set up working group of industry stakeholders

Australia Post has been told by the federal government to set up a new industry-working group to consider issues facing the postal sector.

The group will include representatives from the printing industry, mail-houses, LPOs and the CWU.

Changes the group will discuss include the proposed bulk mail price hikes, raising the cost of a stamp to $1, and the two-speed delivery timetable.

The mailing industry is a $14.1billion industry, employing 131,000 people. The flow on repercussions to the economy and to the community is potentially significant.

The move to set up the new group follows a Senate inquiry that recommended the establishment of a formal working group of industry stakeholders. Former federal Victorian Senator Helen Kroger has been named chair.

The CWU will be highlighting the impact on postal members.
