What is an AUR?

Authorised Union Representatives, or AURs, are members who work with you, in your workplace, that are delegated with specific authorities to act on behalf of members and the Union.

AURs are democratically elected by members in their relevant workplace.

Who are our AURs?

Over 1000 AURs across the country are the unsung heroes of our workplaces.

The name of your workplace AUR should be displayed in an official document on your Union Noticeboard.

What does being an AUR involve?

An AUR generally undertakes the following, within their delegated workplace or work group:

  • Ensuring members in the workplace are aware of important Union updates
  • Communicating with Branch Officials about local issues
  • Local workplace representation and dispute resolution
  • Inviting prospective members to join the CWU

How does the CWU support its AURs?

AURs play a key role in organising our workplaces – and the CWU ensures that AURs are fully supported and given the experience, training and tools needed to be the face of the Union in the workplace.

How do I become an AUR?

Any fully financial member can submit a nomination for the position of AUR in their workplace.

If your nomination is contested, a ballot will be held.

To organise your nomination, please contact your CWU Branch.

What do I get out of it?

You will be trained and educated in current issues affecting members in your industry. You will gain a further insight into the day to day operations of your Union and will build leadership, negotiation and confidence building skills.

You will also develop closer working relationships with your Union officials and leaders..

The CWU has a team consisting of experienced Officials who make themselves available to AURs to share knowledge and provide support.

The bullying or harassment of AURs is not a matter which the CWU takes lightly. Severe legal repercussions exist for this kind of behaviour.
